Antinal 200mg 24 Capsules: Your Reliable Solution for Acute Bacterial Diarrhea

Composition:

Each Antinal 24 Capsule contains 200mg of Nifuroxazide as the active ingredient. Alongside, it includes a blend of excipients such as Pregel Maize Starch, Sucrose, Croscarmellose Sodium, and Magnesium Stearate. The capsule shell consists of Gelatin, Titanium Dioxide E171, and Yellow Iron Oxide 172.

Therapeutic Indications:

Antinal is specifically indicated for the treatment of acute bacterial diarrhea in adults and adolescents without signs of systemic spread. It effectively alleviates symptoms like general malaise, fever, and infectious toxicity. While using Antinal, it is essential to maintain dietary restrictions and rehydration practices as necessary. The choice of oral or intravenous rehydration depends on the severity of the diarrhea, age, and overall condition of the patient, including any associated illnesses.

Dosage and Route of Administration:

For adults, the recommended dosage of Antinal is 1 capsule taken orally, four times a day. Swallow the capsules whole with water. It is crucial not to exceed the treatment duration of 3 days.

Contraindications:

At this point, Antinal should not be used in individuals with hypersensitivity to nitrofurane derivatives or any of the capsule constituents. Furthermore, it is contraindicated in patients below 15 years of age.

Special Precautions:

In pediatric patients below 2 years old, the treatment of acute diarrhea should focus on rehydration, which is a vital aspect of anti-diarrheal therapy. If diarrhea persists for more than 3 days, healthcare professionals should assess the patient’s condition for rehydration, using oral or intravenous methods as appropriate. In cases of infectious diarrhea with systemic spread, it is essential to consider suitable systemic broad-spectrum antibiotics.

Antinal contains sucrose and should be avoided in patients with fructose intolerance, glucose/galactose malabsorption syndrome, and sucrase-isomaltase deficiency.

Additional Precautions:

When using Antinal, patients should be aware of the following guidelines:

  • Adequately rehydrate by consuming plenty of fluids, including options with salt or sugar, to compensate for the fluid loss caused by diarrhea. Adults should aim to consume approximately 2 liters of water per day.
  • Modify the diet during episodes of diarrhea, avoiding certain foodstuffs such as raw food, fruits, vegetables, spicy items, and cold food and drinks. Priority should be given to grilled meats and rice.

Interactions with Other Drugs::

  • Antinal is not compatible with anti-abuse drugs and CNS depressants.

Pregnancy and Lactation:

As a precautionary measure, it is advisable to avoid the use of nifuroxazide, the active ingredient in Antinal, during pregnancy due to limited clinically significant data. However, breastfeeding can continue normally if the therapy with Antinal is limited in time.

Effects on Driving and Machine Operation:

  • Antinal has no known effects on driving vehicles or operating machinery.

Possible Side Effects::

  • Although rare, allergic cutaneous reactions such as rash, urticaria, Quincke edema, or anaphylactic shock may occur.

Overdose:

  • No clinical data is available on nifuroxazide overdose. In case of suspected overdose, it is recommended to seek medical attention for patient monitoring and symptomatic treatment.

Pharmacological Properties:

  • Pharmacodynamic Properties: Antinal belongs to the pharmacotherapeutic class of other intestinal anti-infective agents.
  • Pharmacokinetic Properties: Antinal exhibits extremely low absorption with normal intestinal mucosa.
